June Birthstone - Pearl

Pearl is the official birthstone for those who are born on the month of June. It is also the accepted gem that represents the 3rd and 30th wedding anniversaries. The term pearl comes from the old French perle, a derivation of Latin term for leg, perna—after the ham-shaped leg bivalve.

As one of the oldest known gemstones, pearls have adorned ancient royal crowns, temples, and even wardrobes. Cleopatra is said to been so fascinated with the gem because it renders a feminine ensemble. Additionally, it was also said that Cleopatra swallowed pearl with a glass of wine during a bet that she could devour the wealth of the whole empire in just one meal.

Gems of unsurpassed elegance and popularity, pearls are created naturally by one of the humblest life forms, the mollusk. When a foreign object lodges inside the shell, it could incur damage in the internal tissues of the mollusk. As a defense, the mollusk produces a sac around the irritant in a form of nacre. Layers upon layers of nacre create the world’s most treasured gem, the pearl.

Revered as the stone of purity and innocence, pearls have become a favorite gem used for wedding gowns and worn as jewelry by the brides. They can be set in all types of jewelry and look undeniably refine against any metals such as stainless steel, white or yellow gold and platinum. A lustrous collection of natural or cultured pearl jewelry such as bead necklaces and bracelets, earrings and rings are suitable for all ages and can be worn with casual to night gowns.

A versatile gem, pearls can extend in just about every hue. With such great selections of sizes and color, you will definitely find the perfect pearl jewelry piece that will gladden your heart.
